Dilworth Facial Plastic Surgery

The eyes are the central focus of the face. They command attention, communicate emotion, and can convey everything from excitement to fatigue. An important key to a youthful face, the upper and lower eyelids themselves exhibit hallmark changes due to heredity and the aging process. Additionally important is the relationship of the eyes to the brow and midface. Eyelid surgery at Dilworth Facial Plastic Surgery, also known as a blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that rejuvenates the eyes and leads to a refreshed, more rested appearance. The procedure can be performed as an upper eye lift, a lower eye lift, or both.

Periorbital (around the eye) aging involves changes to the eyelid skin, laxity (looseness) of the deeper tissues of the eyes, fullness/bulging of the fat around the eyes (particularly in the lower eyelid), and descent (drooping) of the soft tissues of the cheeks.

The end result is excess fullness of the upper eyelids, the development of lower eyelid “bags,” and tear trough formation (hollowing, which often appears as dark circles) where the eyelids meet the cheek. Drooping of the eyebrows can also hood the upper eyelids. These changes often occur with age, but can also be hereditary and occur in younger patients.

When rejuvenating the eyes, Dr. Andrea Garcia and Dr. Josh Surowitz assess the entire face, determining how the eyes relate to other nearby facial structures, including the brows and cheeks. The goal with eyelid surgery is to create a refreshed, youthful contour to the upper and lower eyelids, while also creating a smooth transition from the brows to the upper eyelids and from the lower eyelids to the cheeks.

Dual board-certified and fellowship-trained facial plastic surgeons, Dr. Garcia and Dr. Surowitz have dedicated their skills to performing cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, eyes, ears, neck, and nose. As experts in periorbital rejuvenation (blepharoplasty), our surgeons have comprehensive training in the subtle nuances of eyelid surgery.

Dr. Garcia and Dr. Surowitz have extensively studied the complexities of the eyes and their proportions in relation to the rest of the face. Their knowledge and years of experience with facial rejuvenation allow them to approach each patient as an individual with unique needs and desires.
