BOTOX® is the most popular cosmetic treatment in the United States. Each year, millions of men and women from all over the country use this safe and effective procedure to temporarily erase signs of aging and create a refreshed, youthful appearance. BOTOX® can be used to treat fine facial wrinkles that are caused by repetitive facial muscle movements. These “dynamic” wrinkles include frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet around the outside of the eyes, and forehead lines. Experienced facial rejuvenation specialists Dr. Andrea Garcia and Dr. Josh Surowitz, offer BOTOX® in Charlotte, NC, and the surrounding areas of North Carolina and South Carolina.

What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-invasive injectable treatment that is used to treat facial wrinkles. The active ingredient in BOTOX® is a safe, purified form of botulinum toxin that blocks the chemical signals that trigger muscle contractions. After a BOTOX® injection, the facial muscles relax and lines and wrinkles soften or even disappear. The effects fade over a period of three to four months as normal muscle action eventually returns. Many patients choose to continue receiving treatments every few months to maintain their results long-term.
In addition to facial wrinkles, BOTOX® may be used to treat neck bands, fine lines around the mouth and chin, and fine lines of the nose (“bunny lines”). The treatment can also be used as a complement to surgical procedures (such as brow lift, eyelid lift, or facelift) and injectable fillers, or for patients seeking a standalone, minimally-invasive treatment that provides a more youthful look.
Why Choose BOTOX®?
Most patients choose BOTOX® treatments because they are looking for effective, non-surgical facial rejuvenation. Patients love the convenience of the treatment, which can often be completed in under 30 minutes and requires no downtime. Our Charlotte BOTOX® patients typically feel more youthful, vibrant, and confident following a BOTOX® treatment at our office.
Candidates for BOTOX®
The best candidates for BOTOX® Cosmetic are healthy men and women who are unhappy with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles caused by repetitive facial muscle movements. Prospective patients should have realistic expectations for the treatment and understand its limitations.
People with a skin infection at the treatment site, allergies to the ingredients in BOTOX®, or those with muscle or nerve conditions should not get BOTOX® treatments. Women who are pregnant or nursing are also ineligible for the treatment.

Your BOTOX® Consultation
Before your first treatment, you will need to schedule a BOTOX® consultation in Charlotte with our RN Aesthetic Nurse Injector, Catherine Wood. She will guide you through the process, determine your candidacy, and suggest any additional treatments to help you reach your goals. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about your treatment plan so you can get the information you need to make a decision about moving forward with BOTOX®.
Preparing for BOTOX® in Charlotte, NC
No special preparation is needed before a BOTOX® session. To minimize bruising, avoid over-the-counter pain medications for a week before the treatment. Smoking may also affect your results or increase side effects.
The BOTOX® Treatment
The BOTOX® procedure is simple but requires significant skill on the injector’s part. Numbing with ice or topical medication can be used to make the treatment more comfortable, but most patients tolerate the injection well. Using a very fine needle, the injector targets specific facial muscles that are causing the patient’s wrinkles. Once all areas of concern have been treated, the patient can go back to their daily activities.
Results from BOTOX® injections can be seen within seven to 10 days after treatment. These results will typically last for approximately three months.
Recovering From BOTOX®
One of the biggest benefits of BOTOX® treatments in Charlotte is that there is no downtime involved. Patients love how easy it is to incorporate BOTOX® treatments into their daily lives. After a BOTOX® injection, patients can go back to their normal activities immediately. Many feel well enough to return to work right away. Minor side effects, like bruising, swelling, and redness may occur but typically resolve within a few days.
Possible Risks & Side Effects of BOTOX®
BOTOX® injections are very safe. Minor side effects like swelling and bruising should not be a cause for concern and will typically resolve within a few days. More serious side effects are rare, but can include:
|Flu-like Symptoms||Facial weakness or Drooping||Nausea|
|Breathing Problems||Trouble Swallowing||Muscle Weakness|
Choosing a skilled provider greatly reduces risks for serious complications. Patients should mention all current and past medical conditions and any medications they are taking during the consultation so our plastic surgeons and nurses can optimize safety.

Frequently Asked Questions about BOTOX®
How Much Does BOTOX® Cost in Charlotte, NC?
BOTOX® in Charlotte, NC is priced by the unit. The number of units necessary for the most natural and long-lasting results will vary from patient to patient depending upon the areas treated, since each region of the face is individually assessed. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Andrea Garcia, Dr. Josh Surowitz, or Catherine Wood, RN, to discuss your personalized treatment plan.
Is BOTOX® Safe?
BOTOX® is both well tolerated and safe. The most commonly reported side effects associated with BOTOX® injections are injection-site bruising, mild swelling, and headaches, all of which are temporary. To minimize the risk of these mild side effects, we recommend elevation of the head for approximately three hours after treatment, avoidance of strenuous exercise for 12 hours, and avoidance of direct massage to the treated areas.
Can Dermal Fillers Be Combined With BOTOX®?
Some facial wrinkles and fine lines can be the result of volume loss and sagging facial tissues, not muscle activity. These types of lines and wrinkles can be improved with dermal fillers, such as Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Volbella, Vollure, Voluma, Restylane, Restylane Refyne, Restylane Defyne, and Restylane Lyft.
Patients seeking cheek augmentation, lip injections, facial volume enhancement, and smoothing of facial wrinkles have a variety of options. These treatments are often combined with BOTOX® at our Charlotte office. Catherine Wood, the resident expert RN Aesthetic Nurse Injector, will explain the different advantages of the available fillers and help guide you so you can make the best choice for your aesthetic needs.
In some cases, surgical correction with a facelift, browlift, and/or eyelid lift will provide a longer-lasting solution to restore a more youthful appearance.
Are There Alternatives to BOTOX®?
Dysport® is another popular brand of neuromodulator injections that we offer. Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® injections at Dilworth Facial Plastic Surgery is a type of injectable that blocks chemical signals that trigger muscle contractions to ease wrinkles.
Dysport® is set apart from other injectables for two reasons: Results tend to appear sooner, and it tends to very slightly diffuse into nearby tissue, making it well suited for treating areas where wrinkles are more spread out. Your doctor will help you determine which injectable is best suited for your unique needs.
