Dermal Fillers in Charlotte, NC

Discover the Benefits of Juvéderm® and Restylane®

Healthy facial volume is a key component of a youthful facial appearance. Injectable fillers, also known as dermal fillers, are safe and well-tolerated. They can restore volume to areas where it has been lost due to the natural aging process or add volume where more is desired, as with lip injections. Available at Dilworth Facial Plastic Surgery, these safe injectable treatments mimic the body’s own naturally occurring collagen and hyaluronic acid, are non-surgical, and have minimal (if any) downtime.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Youthful facial anatomy is the sum of many components, including skin health, facial fat volume, and the underlying support of the facial bones. Skin is naturally full of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. These compounds serve to give the skin structure, provide support, maintain hydration, and create healthy texture. Facial fat appropriately situated in the various compartments of the face provides aesthetically pleasing contours. The sum of these results is healthy skin and a youthful facial appearance.

Injectable fillers (dermal fillers) work as temporary replacements for collagen, hyaluronic acid, and fat that have diminished over time. Different fillers may be used to address different facial needs—from filling fine lines to restoring lost volume. At Dilworth Facial Plastic Surgery, we view the face as our canvas and the various fillers as our paintbrush. We will discuss our recommendations for your specific individual needs at the time of consultation.

Popular dermal filler lines also feature products that can be used specifically to enhance the fullness and contour of the lips (lip injections).

Since these injectables are based on naturally occurring elements in the skin, they are safe to use and are simply absorbed into the body over time. Touch-up or return visits can be scheduled to maintain long-term results from lip injections and other treatments.

How long do fillers last?

While hyaluronic acid-based fillers all work on the same principles, each has a unique formulation, which means that there are variations in how long the effects last. Typically, volume added from these fillers lasts between six months and a year. Specifically, Radiesse® has been shown to last up to a year, while Voluma® and Sculptra® Aesthetic have been shown to last two years under ideal circumstances. The location of filler placement will also effect how long particular fillers will last, with slightly shorter duration when injected into areas that are frequently in motion (such as the lips, nasolabial grooves, and corners of the mouth) and longer duration of results when injected into areas that are not in motion (such as the temples, cheeks, and tear troughs). Dr. Garcia and Dr. Surowitz will discuss the most optimal filler options for your unique needs at the time of your consultation.

Radiesse

This filler consists of fine calcium hydroxyapatite particles (one of the natural components of bone) suspended in a gel. It can be used in the cheeks and midface, nasolabial creases, and corners of the mouth.

Restylane-L®

This hyaluronic acid-based filler is used to fill nasolabial creases, for lip enhancement (lip injections), around the corners of the mouth, to fill and lift the brows, and to fill the tear troughs (the under-eye hollows).

Restylane® Silk

This smooth hyaluronic acid-based filler can be used to improve fine wrinkles around the mouth and lower face and to enhance the lips (lip injections) to provide more definition.

Restylane® Lyft

The larger particles in this hyaluronic acid-based formulation are ideal for cheek augmentation and contouring the mid-face. It can also smooth out nasolabial grooves.

Sculptra® Aesthetic

This filler consists of absorbable poly-L-lactic acid. Known as a “collagen stimulator,” the correction that results from Sculptra is the result of your body’s own natural collagen that is deposited once your body absorbs the poly-L-lactic acid particles. It is injected into the deeper tissues of the face and can be used to fill the temples, augment the midface, fill hollows below the cheeks, and enhance jawline definition. Two to three treatments are required and these are typically spaced about four to six weeks apart. Results are gradual and can be seen approximately six weeks after the second treatment.

Options Beyond Dermal Fillers

Patients who want a youthful face frequently combine the benefits of dermal fillers with BOTOX® Cosmetic, which prevents the appearance of dynamic wrinkles that form through repeated muscle movement.

For longer-lasting results, consider a surgical mid facelift to change contours in the cheek area.
