Patients with a small chin or cheekbones may choose to augment their facial contours with surgery. A chin implant can bring more definition to the chin and jawline. Additionally, chin implants are commonly used during rhinoplasty to create a more balanced appearance and improved harmony between the nose and face. Similarly, cheek implants result in enhanced contour of the midface with more youthful facial proportions.
Dr. Andrea Garcia and Dr. Josh Surowitz are experienced facial plastic surgeons who assess each patient individually and create a plan intended to provide augmentation where desired, while also preserving and improving facial proportions. Both surgeries involve the application of an anesthetic to reduce sensation, then the careful insertion of implants. Cheek implants are inserted through a very small incision made inside the mouth, behind the upper lip, resulting in no visible external scar formation. The incision for a chin implant is camouflaged in the submental crease. Chin and cheek augmentation may be performed separately, together, or as part of a larger combination of aesthetic procedures. The surgery can be completed quickly, and patients find that results are immediately visible. Some swelling and bruising will be apparent, but will fade in the months after the procedure.
Patients who are not yet ready to choose surgical implants may opt for other treatments. In some cases, dermal fillers can give significant improvement with little to no downtime. Facial fat grafting may also be an alternative in select patients.
