How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
Dermal fillers replace collagen, hyaluronic acid, and fat that have diminished over time. They can also mimic bone and add structure to the jawline, chin, or cheeks. When injected just below the skin, these gels instantly add volume to specific areas of the face.
Different filler formulations address different facial needs, from filling fine lines to enhancing facial contours. Some of the most popular treatment options include:

What To Expect
We often apply topical numbing medication before the injections for enhanced comfort. Our fillers contain a local anesthetic as well. Your provider will inject the filler into your lips with a fine needle or cannula and gently massage your lips.
After the Treatment
Because the lips are delicate and sensitive, most patients experience swelling for about 3 to 7 days after lip injections.
Results
Results last 6 to 12 months, depending on the specific filler and individual patient factors.
Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty
Nonsurgical rhinoplasty involves using dermal filler injections to make minor improvements to the tip and bridge of the nose. This procedure, also called liquid rhinoplasty, provides the following benefits:

What Are Dermal Fillers Made Of?
At Dilworth Facial Plastic Surgery, our injectors use products from the JUVÉDERM and Restylane families of fillers. These products are made of synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA), a sugar found naturally in your body that attracts and holds water.
Are Dermal Fillers Safe?
Because these injectables mimic natural components of the skin, they are safe to use and absorb gradually and harmlessly into the body over several months.
What Is It Like To Get a Dermal Filler Treatment?
Dermal filler treatments are quick, convenient, and involve little to no downtime. After designing your custom treatment plan with you, your provider will carefully inject the filler into specific areas. Treatments typically take less than 30 minutes, and you’ll be able to see the difference right away.
What Is Recovery Like After a Dermal Filler Treatment?
You will be able to return to your daily routine right away after a dermal filler treatment. You may have some swelling or bruising around your injection sites for a few days. Acetaminophen and ice packs will keep your swelling and soreness to a minimum during this time.
How Long Do JUVÉDERM & Restylane Last?
The lifespan of your filler results will depend on the specific formulation injected. Typically, results last between 6 months and a year and, in some cases, up to 2 years. You can maintain your results with touch-up treatments scheduled every few months.
The location of filler placement will also affect how long particular fillers last. Fillers typically dissolve faster in areas that move a lot, such as the lips, nasolabial folds, and corners of the mouth, and last longer in areas that are not in motion, such as the temples and cheeks.
